Course Description
AK Industry Foundations II is the second course in a flexible Career & Technical Education (CTE) sequence designed for small Alaska schools. Building on foundational exploration from Course I, students expand their understanding of Alaska’s high-demand business, healthcare, public service, & community leadership sectors while strengthening workplace safety, employability, technical literacy, leadership, & career planning skills through simulations, technical training systems, hands-on projects, workplace experiences, & industry partnerships. Career exploration includes accounting, art, media and design, business, culinary arts, digital technology, entrepreneurship, education, finance and investment, healthcare, human services, leadership and community development, marketing and sales, medical billing and coding, public safety, tourism, tribal administration, and related fields aligned with local needs and available resources. Students are not expected to engage in all areas; instead, they explore selected fields based on individual interests, emerging career goals, and available learning opportunities. As interests become more defined, students may pursue deeper learning in one or more fields through advanced projects, work-based learning experiences, leadership activities, industry-recognized credential preparation, and documented technical skill development. Throughout the course, students build and maintain a comprehensive Career Portfolio documenting workplace experiences, leadership activities, technical competencies, certifications, employability skills, refined career interests, and postsecondary goals. The portfolio serves as a living record of continued career exploration and pathway refinement as students strengthen workplace readiness skills and develop more focused plans for education, training, credential attainment, and employment. This course supports continued pathway development and may serve as a bridge to advanced CTE coursework, dual-credit opportunities, pre-apprenticeships, internships, industry certifications, and specialized career pathways. It is designed to support flexible, multi-year participation as students refine interests and deepen skill development over time.
