Wellness Guidelines for Alaska's Young Children
The Department of Education and Early Development and The Department of Health & Social Services have developed web-based interactive training courses for early childhood educators.
The Wellness Guidelines for Alaska’s Young Children modules provide in-depth training to head start, preschool, and childcare providers interested in improving the physical activity and nutrition environment for children in their care. Participants learn about childhood overweight and how to implement policy and environmental strategies in the classroom setting to increase physical activity and healthy food choices. The training also prepares programs to integrate the principles of the Dietary Guidelines for Americans, MyPlate, and the Child and Adult Care Food Program into the nutrition education curriculum, classroom environment, and their personal behavior characteristics.
The Wellness Guidelines include the following modules:
Module 1: Weight Matters
Module 2: Nutrition in the Classroom
Module 3: Physical Activity in the Classroom
Module 4: Serving Healthy Food
Module 5: Serving Local and Traditional Foods
